Last week I trained in Dublin! How exciting was that. I trained a sales team from a large American printing company. Each person had their own presence. One was extremely charming and disarming, the other professional and sharp, another came across as trustworthy. While another had a real talent for storytelling.
What do these gentlemen need a training for, you might think.
The professional, sharp participant could get across as a bit frosty at times. Just, connecting with the audience, instead of talking from the head, made a big difference. Warming his presence up.
The storyteller was a joy to listen to, but Irish people can talk very fast, and this man was no exception. By learning from the group, how they needed more time to digest, he took his pace down and thereby his talent for timing al of a sudden popped up. Amazing.
The charming participant could learn to have more of a plan when he started to speak, so that he could move beyond just giving a few facts, but really gave the audience more valuable information.
Finally, the participant who had been a bit stiff, frozen up yet had an open face. Loosened his body up physically, showcasing much more energy while presenting. This resulted in a more melodious voice, supporting gestures and a strong, yet relaxed posture that became congruent with his face.
So, there is always something to become conscious of and there is always something to strengthen your style. A tiny little thing, can make a huge difference…..
