How to create the perfect state of mind for a presentation?
How to calm your nerves, while remaining alert at the same time?
Your breath is your best friend in times of acute stress.
An effective breathing exercise to use before a presentation is box breathing.
How does it work?
- You breathe, through your nose, imaginary along the sides of a box.
- 4 seconds breathing in, along the left-hand side of the box.
- 4 seconds holding your breath, along the upper side of the box.
- 4 seconds breathing out, along the right-hand side of the box.
- 4 seconds holding your breath, along the lower side of the box.
You keep on doing these 4 steps, for 3 to 5 minutes.
Do you feel more relaxed? Is your breathing calmer?
And do you feel at the same time calm, focused and concentrated?
This is what the effect of the box breathing exercise can give you. Exactly the state of mind you want to be in when you present.
Good luck!
