Are you a newsreader or a guide? That is the question!
In the beginning of January, a friend and I decided to supp along the Amsterdam canals during the Amsterdam Light Festival. It was magical, the dark water, the lights on the boats having their reflection in the water.
Although the atmosphere was magical, the art works did not leave a big impression on us. Maybe, the quality was less this year, or maybe they did not appeal to us personally.
However, on the way back I realized that the previous years, we were accompanied by interesting information on the art works. And I realized that that must have had an impact on how we experienced these works. While listening, the background and the intentions of the artist became clear. It was as if the works came alive.
And this is exactly what a good presenter does. Instead of summing up lists of information like a newsreader, a good presenter is as a good guide, leading the audience through the story and making the information come alive and come near.
And this makes all the difference, being a newsreader or being a guide when you present in how an audience will receive the information.
But how do you involve your audience?
